Looking for some extra Joomla 1.0 speed? Already do all the optimization you can possibly think of for Joomla? Well this may be perfect for you! The Joomla 1.0.x PNG Lite only effects backend load times, NOT front end! This is only due to the fact that Joomla 1.0 does not come with any core PNG files that are loaded via the front end (except template png files).

Joomla PNG-Lite icons are a direct swap for Joomla 1.0 core png icons, the icons appear the same in every possible way including quality. They are  however significantly smaller! These images were compressed using the same methods that I explain in the Template optimization guide I wrote that can be applied to just about any template to make them significantly smaller.

You save an substantial amount of bandwidth and speed, by using this direct file swap enhancement. Joomla 1.0.x PNG lite reduces a total of 72.8 kb of file size. Your navigation between pages in the admin panel will be much quicker, especially for users with slower internet connections.

Installation:

This is by far the easiest optimization enhancement for Joomla to install. Simply unpackage the zip file and drop it in to your root Joomla directory via ftp, then overwrite all of the old images with the new ones by clicking overwrite in your ftp client.

You may need to clear your browser cache to notice any improvements. While the improvements may be small, they are improvements at the cost of about 2 minutes of your time. You need to use the default admin template to notice any differences in the back end.
